UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University
North Carolina is also home to two Division I NCAA Fencing teams, UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University. Both schools have a long and successful history.
The University of North Carolina, an institution rich in both academic and athletic tradition, has experienced many changes since it’s inception in 1967. For 51 years, the fencing program was helmed by Dr. Ron C. Miller until his retirement in 2018. The program has achieved a great deal of success over the years. Four Carolina fencers have been U.S. National Fencing Team members while two have competed in the Olympics. The Tar Heels have had at least one fencer compete in the NCAA Championships in each year of the UNC program.
Duke University also has a rich history along with rival UNC. For over 30 years, Duke Fencing is lead by Alex Beguinet. Fencers have been All-American and NCAA Champions. Several fencers have also been Olympic team members.
